What to say. Sometimes with certain couples, words are hard to come by. I have been privileged to know Betsy and Dan-Michael over the course of a few short months. They are the couple from New York that I have grown to love from afar. I first met Mom (aka Ellen Sue). I remember the first day I met her. She instantly told me of her daughter, a bright, caring, light of an artist. Don’t think for a second she didn’t also immediately tell me of her future son-in-law, someone she had already taken as family.
Betsy and I corresponded by phone, email and, of course, Facebook. She was everything Mom had promised–inspiring hopes for her wedding, creative in the details (small and large), and wildly engaging. I immediately wanted to know more of this girl.
She spoke intimately of Dan-Michael, told me his ins and outs. She told me of them, their passions, their spirits, their love.
I was fortunate to meet both of them for their engagement session which was, of course, meticulously styled by none than THE Dan-Michael. I remember having a hard time directing, verbally that is, simply because the moment, the mood… was right in front of me. I didn’t need to speak, I just needed to capture.
This is why I do what I do: because Betsy will laugh wildly when with him. Because Dan-Michael is superbly photogenic when with his best friend. They didn’t need direction, they need documentation of this insanely gorgeous thing they’ve got goin’ on… LOVE.
Really, this is my life. This crazy job of mine pays off the day you promise your best friend to be his/hers indefinitely, forever, without reservation. That is indeed the best story there is to tell. That is what keeps me crazy in love with documenting a wedding celebration and the lives of those I grow to fall crazy in love with.
To the Parkers, to the Batistas, and to everyone I had the pleasure to encounter that day: thank you for supporting, loving, laughing, dancing with a remarkable couple by whom I am deeply moved. You all told a beautiful story that day and I am thankful that Betsy ad Dan-Michael will forever have this day remembered.
This was a stunning collaboration, allow us to credit the many talented people that helped with this sweet vision.
